The Loose Goose

With my Queensland holiday extravaganza over it’s time to share a little piece of it with you.  I must confess that unfortunately food was not a major component of my recent trip, which is highly unusual for me.  However, there were one or two dining highlights that I can speak of.

The Loose Goose’ truly is a little hidden treasure on the Sunshine Coast.  Set in a small shopping centre next door to the Twin Waters Golf Club, I must admit that I had some concerns when arriving to see it placed next door to a real estate agency, a takeaway shop and a small supermarket.  I have tended to avoid restaurants in these settings previously due to terrible experiences.  But my preconceptions disappeared very quickly.

The setting once through the front gate was impressive.  A modern décor inside which had fresh clean lines and plenty of light with a convivial bar to sit and drink at.  We decided to sit outside on the decking by the creek filled with lily pads and a water feature surrounded by nature on the perfect balmy Queensland evening.  Additionally all the staff were friendly and helpful.

'The Loose Goose' menu was abundant.  Well thought out and sectioned nicely with share plates, oysters, entrees, farinaceous, mains, sides, cheese, dessert and liquid dessert.  It all screamed fresh, seasonal and delectable and it was fabulous to see a great selection of gluten free options.

To start we had ‘tempura whiting fillets with lime zest and aioli’ ($11) GF and the ‘beef carpaccio with caramelized echalots and potato crisps’ ($12) GF.  I am certain the whiting was caught that day as it melted in our mouths; it was so fresh and perfectly cooked.  The carpaccio had divine flavors making both dishes an impeccable opening act.

Entree

For main course we ordered the ‘angel hair pasta with blue swimmer crab, garlic, chilli and salsa verde’ ($18 entrée/$28 main) which was al dente, light, amazing and the ‘char grilled eye fillet with dauphinoise potatoes, spinach and red wine tarragon butter’ ($35) GF.  This dish was simply perfect and was skirted beautifully with a glass of Pinot Noir.

Main Course
Put simply 'The Loose Goose' is worth a visit for a clean, fresh and flawless meal with a tropical Queensland backdrop.
